IA)Conflict- A problem or resistance the protagonist of the story finds in trying to achieve his aims or dreams.
Hale: "You most certainty do, and you will free it from her now! When did you compact with the devil?" (1260)
IB) A conflict has come up when Tituba has been accused of compacting with the devil. After Betty fell ill, the town declared it due to a witch. When Abigail feels like she will get in trouble for dancing in the forest(a sin in her religion/community) she points her fingers at Tituba. This is a key point in the play. Tituba is threatened to be whipped to death if she doesn't confess. The other added this conflict so that the Priest, Parris, of the town has to decide whats right to do. This conflict give more action and excitement to the story. Now Hale decides to use Tituba to see the Devils plan instead of executing her.
II) Abigail: "Why, I am sure it is. There be no blush about my name."
Reverend Parris is talking to Abigail about her name in the village. Ever since Betty fell ill the whole town is stirring. Abigail, who live in the same house of Reverend Parris, the towns priest, was saw dancing in the forest which is against all the rules in the town, and considered a sin. Since she lives in the same house as the Reverend, his reputation could take a great hit(negative) from this if people were to find out Abigail had some involvement in this. Abigail is pleading that she hasn't done anything bad in the woods and that her name along with her family's will stay without blush(clean).
III) John Proctor- He is tall, attractive, fit, upright, and honest. John is important to the story because the whole town looks up to him. Everyone knows he is a good man and that they can trust him. I am not sure of his outcome since we have only finished act 1, but his outcome looks as if he will be the towns hero. At the end of act 1, John has been to the town to check out the accusations of people being a witch, and run into Abigail where he got into a argument with her.
